Adios

Apresa en tus dedos
la brisa que pasa
fugaz, indecisa.
No veas el mundo de prisa.

-Jorge Carrera Andrade

On Saturday, August 23rd, I depart from the cornfields to land at 3,000 meters above sea level in Quito, Ecuador. Despite being the smallest country in the rugged Andean highlands, Ecuador is known for its array of vibrant indigenous cultures, dense rainforest, pristine beaches and volcanic landscapes. While I hope to experience all of these, I will be spending the majority of my time studying to complete a Masters in Public Health at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Through a program focused on community and indigenous medicine, I hope to learn how Ecuador is implementing public health initiatives that blend elements of both Western and traditional medicine.

In what I am sure will prove to be a year filled with mis-conjugated Spanish verbs, exploration, travel , and cultural immersion, I hope to keep in touch through this blog. Hasta pronto!
